Description
The School Board and Youth Engagement Lab at Teachers College, Columbia University seeks a highly skilled and passionate UI/UX Designer and Researcher to join our team. Their role will be to support the development of Outreach, a civic engagement and deliberation tool designed to empower action and drive decision-making. This individual will be responsible for converting political science research-based goals for user engagement into intuitive, accessible, and impactful user interfaces and experiences. They will also be responsible for supporting user research by integrating data collection processes into
the tool’s design.
Required Skills
Some completed undergraduate coursework in computer science. Proficiency in coding/software development. Relevant experience in UI/UX design, familiar with the design process (preferably including civic, educational, or similar contexts). Passion for civic engagement, education, and creating meaningful user experiences for diverse audiences. Great communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with product, development, and research teams

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design intuitive, accessible, and engaging interfaces and user flows that align with both user needs and Outreach's goals, ensuring a seamless experience for diverse users.
Conduct user research (interviews, surveys, usability tests) to gather insights from students, educators, and administrators, driving design decisions based on real user needs.
Work closely with cross-functional teams (product, developers, educators) to translate research insights into actionable design solutions, presenting findings and iterating based on feedback.
Conduct usability and A/B testing to refine designs, ensuring continuous improvement of the app's interface based on real-user feedback and engagement metrics.
Maintain clear documentation of design decisions, user research, and iteration process, sharing findings and progress with stakeholders to ensure alignment and transparency
