Description
Project Goal: To increase public awareness, understanding, and engagement with the latest research findings from the Columbia Lyme and Tick-Borne Diseases Research Center and Clinical Trials Network by translating complex scientific articles into accessible and compelling summaries for social media platforms and website content.
This project seeks an undergraduate student to identify key findings, simplify scientific jargon, and craft engaging content tailored for public understanding across various platforms
Required Skills
Essential qualifications include exceptional English proficiency, the ability to write captivating and clear content for a lay audience, a keen interest in science/health, and basic social media literacy. The articles span the areas of infectious disease, neurology, neuropsychiatry, and rheumatology.
Additional Information
Desirable (but not required) Qualifications:
Previous Science Communication Experience: Any experience in writing about science for a non-scientific audience (e.g., student newspaper, personal blog, volunteer work).
Familiarity with Lyme Disease or related fields (neurology, immunology, microbiology, infectious disease, neuropsychiatry): Some prior knowledge of Lyme disease or related vector-borne illnesses.
Visual Communication Skills: Basic experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva) or an eye for what makes a compelling visual post.
Coursework in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or Public Health.
